Michele Whitney
I have proudly been writing for Suite101.com since 2009.
I have a variety of interests that range from business to beauty. I am creative by nature, and I choose to express myself either through music (playing the flute) or creative writing. Although music is my first love, I have been writing since I was a child. My writing has been published in Diverse Voices Quarterly, the Chicago Sun-Times and other venues. I am also a dedicated advocate and volunteer; having worked with several organizations within the community. I hold a BS in Marketing from Northern Illinois University, as well as an MBA. Currently, I am working on a PhD in Public Service Leadership where my dissertation topic will be on the human-animal bond. I also serve on the Board of Directors for the West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS) in Downers Grove, IL and volunteer on the Associate Board for Found Chicago.
In the future, I would like to conduct research on many issues that have affected my life, including alcoholism, addiction and recovery, Alzheimer's disease, family caregiving, and grief and bereavement. I also want to increase awareness of the overall health benefits of animals through the development of humane education programs. If I am not writing or playing the flute, I also spend my time fishkeeping, being an aunt, watching my favorite daytime drama, General Hospital, caring for my mother, trying new recipes, practicing aromatherapy, and taking care of my feline animal companion, Samson.
